Healthy eating is always a hot topic but one that can be very confusing. That’s why the Nutrition & Your Metabolism Clinic
is a popular service at London Drugs. Developed by a team of
dietitians, pharmacists and a physician, this clinic adds new value to
your visit.
The clinic is conducted by a specially-trained London Drugs Patient
Care Pharmacist and is delivered one-on-one. It begins with a review of
your usual eating habits and lifestyle and any concerns you may have.
Your “body composition” is measured by a special analyzer that helps you
see beyond your weight. Then, tips and resources for healthy eating and
how to set and achieve goals gets you ready for action.
Overall, this 45-minute clinic offers:
- body composition analysis to determine ones Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR is the number of calories you burn at rest), % fat, % water, and fat free mass
- personalized work-up to help guide patient through their nutrition and weight goals
- discussion on impact of weight on other health conditions
- physical activity and how it can help keep them healthy
- assess dietary habits and how to develop a nutritious eating plan
- a follow-up is available if requested
- you may also be referred to other experts (for example, if more in-depth nutrition information is needed, your pharmacist can direct you to your local dietitian).
“The nutrition clinic is definitely one of the more popular clinics
at my store in Maple Ridge. I’ve seen patients with no knowledge of
healthy eating and ones who are very knowledgeable and they all say they
have benefited from the information given.” This is according to
Connie, a BC-based London Drugs pharmacist, who also notes some people
are pleasantly surprised to discover they are actually eating quite
well, while others can make simple changes to give them more energy. In
fact, your pharmacist can address a range of issues including choosing
balanced meals, how to eat regularly, limiting empty calories and eating
wisely when dining out. He or she can also get you on the path to
reduce fat, cholesterol and sodium if your health requires. Your need
for supplements will also be assessed. The body composition analyzer is
a fun tool that helps you appreciate “what you are made of.” It
measures body fat and muscle, for comparison to folks in your age
category. Knowing your body make-up can help you set fitness goals to
build muscle or reduce fat.
Appointments last approximately 45 minutes. Customers with complex
medical conditions may not be suitable for this clinic. Upon booking,
you will be asked to complete a screening form.
There is a $15 fee to attend this clinic. A tax receipt can be issued upon request.
