World Hunger: How Can UMVIM Teams Help?

According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) 2006 statistics, there are 820 million chronically hungry people in developing countries.
Sub-Saharan Africa: 204 million
Asia/Pacific: 156 million
India: 221 million
China: 142 million
Latin America/Caribbean: 53 million
Near East/North Africa: 39 million
Ten million people die every year of hunger and hunger-related diseases. Only eight percent are the victims of high-profile earthquakes, floods, droughts and wars. The rest are often forgotten.

As United Methodist Volunteer in Mission Health Teams travel to these areas of the world, we should consider how to address food shortages among the people that we are serving. If you have interventions to suggest, please click on "comments" below and start a dialogue about ways that UMVIM teams can help.
