Haiti Medical Emergency Response

A Message from Lorna Jost regarding Haiti emergency medical needs:

Future Volunteers

The Jurisdictional Coordinators had a phone conversation with Tom Hazelwood, UMCOR. Information from that tele-conference:

There will be a great need for volunteers to help rebuild once the initial crisis has settled. At this time, it is not safe or possible for volunteers to go to Haiti. In order to frame a response that is consistent with the churches' needs, people and teams wishing to volunteer should contact their Jurisdictional UMVIM Coordinator to determine when and how to appropriately respond. The coordinators will compile a list of all interested volunteers. When it is time to send volunteers in - the teams must have a trained team leader who should also have some Haiti experience.

We will let you know when the time for volunteers is appropriate - i.e., when Haiti Methodist Church is ready for teams. We will work on projects which are the priority of church of Haiti.

Grace and Peace,
Lorna Jost,
North Central Jurisdiction VIM Coordinator

POST SCRIPT:  For those who have been praying for the safety of the residents and volunteers in Haiti, we have just learned that Rev. Jim Gulley, Rev. Sam Dixon and Rev. Clint Rabb, who were attending a conference in Haiti at the Hotel Montana are safe.  We are grateful for that but continue to be in prayer for many others who have been affected by this tragedy.
