Guatemala UMVIM Project Needs Two Med/Dental Teams in 2011

We are Mary Micikas and JoAn Dwyer.  We serve as Individual Volunteers in Guatemala. We currenty need two medical teams/dental teams to help us in 2011. We depend on these volunteer teams to keep our clinic functioning. In addition we can use individual doctors, dentists, nurse practitioners, or other health care professionals to work in our clinic at anytime.
Information about our project:

  • We are an approved UMVIM site
  • Our project is called ODIM (Organization for the Development of Indigenous Maya)
  • Our main program is a medical / dental clinic (constructed by VIM teams and local workers)
  • The clinic opened 2 years ago with local staff, health promoters and volunteer medical teams
  • The dental clinic is fully equipped with 2 chairs
  • Low cost ($1.33/visit including medications) is provided for area Indigenous Maya
  • Teams work both in the clinic and surrounding rural areas providing primary health care and follow-up
  • We (Mary and JoAn) can set up all in-country arrangements for teams, including hotel, travel, food and work in the clinic.
