Highland Park Youth Partner with 4 Corners Community Health Project

Sixty youth from the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas have just completed two weeks of service in Puerta Viejo, Sarapiqui, Costa Rica.  While there, the youth dug ditches, poured concrete and laid blocks in the construction of an outpatient health facility.

The health facility is part of a mission initiative from St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas named "4 Corners Global Outreach, Inc.", a 501c3 non-profit which works to partner with Methodist Churches and local impoverished communities to plant heath facilities, support economic ventures and educate local community health workers.  The project in Costa Rica represents the first such partnership.

Rev. Janet Collinsworth of St. Andrews is spearheading the Costa Rican project, which has grown and exceeded timeline expectations.  The Costa Rican project administrator is Lilliana Rojas an RN. On July 30, 2011, a group of St. Andrew volunteers will arrive to continue working on construction. Lilliana, Rev. Collinsworth and Jane Dunn RN, MS, GBGM Health Consultant will begin initiation of a Health Promoter Training  Course on August 1st.

Youth Helps with Health Assessment
