Deposit of $100 to hold place on team. Checks made out to Evangel Heights UMC- Guatemala Mission.
Send to: Larry Wagner, Treasurer, Evangel Heights UMC, 114 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46615
San Andrés, Guatemala is an overlooked and underserved town located about 8 km from Panajachel in the Department of Sololá near Lake Atitlan. The population of the area is approximately 20,000 people. Mission Guatemala has located an old restaurant building that is centrally located on the main highway. We plan to turn this building into the new clinic that will serve the region above Lake Atitlan. The clinic can easily serve 50 to 100 patients per week. This location also provides space for community health education programs and other community events. We need help to renovate the clinic building and get it ready for operation. There are also other buildings on the property that need up-dating and repairs. We welcome medical teams to provide additional care for the people of San Andrés and the region. Pastor Tom Heaton is an Elder in the Indiana Conference appointed to this mission by Bishop Coyner.

SERVE ON A MISSION TEAM IN HAITI
Join a team of 5 – 10 people led by Rev. Don Dexheimer of the Rockford District (815-623-2292 X 103 outreach@roscoeumc.org). We will partner with the Methodist Church of Haiti to rebuild facilities damaged or destroyed by the earthquake. The work we do, construction, medical, and VBS, will be determined by the skills of the team members.
We are looking for team members who are willing to return to Haiti later and lead a team because the need is great and we need to multiply leadership. United Methodist Volunteer In Mission (UMVIM) leadership training is available November 20, 2010, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at First UMC, Arlington Heights, IL. The cost is $33 for the manual and training, and $13 for background check. To register for training contact Jane Dunn at umvim4health@ameritech.net .
The team will fly from Chicago O’Hare to Port Au Prince on American Airlines departing the morning of February 9 and returning the evening of February 17, 2011. Roundtrip airfare was $413 as of September 15. It is better to buy tickets soon because 1 month before departure the price is expected to go up to $600.
The team will send project funds of $3.500 to the team leader for UMVIM by January 7, 2011. That amount will be matched by UMCOR and then sent to Haiti for use on the project to which the team is assigned. If there are 10 people on the team then each person will contribute $350 to the project funds. It is suggested that team members encourage their church to raise the money for the project funds plus one half of the additional cost of the trip. What is the cost of the trip?
If 10 on the team then the cost is $ 991 + airfare, this includes the project funds
If 8 on the team then the cost is $1,129 + airfare, this includes the project funds
If 6 on the team then the cost is $1,359 + airfare, this includes the project funds
What do I need to do to prepare to go to serve in Haiti?
A passport that is valid through August 17, 2011. No visa is required.
The following vaccinations are available at a County Health Department in your area. Prices for injections vary but run about $50 per shot.
Contact Rev. Don Dexheimer of the Rockford District (815-623-2292 X 103 outreach@roscoeumc.org if interested.

Service Opportunities From Missouri VIM Newsletter
Close to 20 mission people have been displaced by the floods in Pakistan. Donations thus far have been very low especially when compared to the $40 million UMCOR was able to collect in response to the Haiti earthquake. The Pakistan tragedy has affected as many people as the tsunami in Southeast Asia and the Chile and Haiti earthquakes combined. Please consider donating through UMCOR to Advance #982450. 100% of all donations go to those in need. GIVE NOW

Medical Teams to Nicaragua Looking for Members

Wisconsin Seeks Health Volunteers for Peru Project
The Wisconsin Conference Peru Mission has been confirmed for July 29 – August 12, 2010. Volunteer medical and construction personnel are needed. We will be staying at the La Angostura Hostel in Ica, Peru. There are double and triple rooms available with bathrooms, hot water and cable.
The medical team will be working in Pisco. There are four churches where we will set up a clinic. I will check on the transportation regarding a local bus vs. rental. I will also inquire about a clinic for Ica. The economic situation in Ica and Pisco has deteriorated since the earthquake in August 2007. There is minimal government aid. Many habitants have lost their jobs. The medical campaign will be coupled to provide Christian counselors to help affected persons.
This Methodist mission will accommodate up to 30 people for the team. We have an opportunity to work with the children for Bible School or other educational training. The schools will be closed for a national holiday for one week while we are there.
The construction team will be assisting a bricklayer and helpers to add a second story on an existing building. This building is a church that is also used as a school and community center.
Estimated costs are: $850 plus airfare. Recently, the Kayak website showed Delta and Continental flights for $525 from Chicago to Lima. Costs for the mission include room, food, ground transportation, sight- seeing weekend, insurance, project costs and miscellaneous fees. A trip to Machu Picchu can be arranged at the end of the mission and will require one or two extra days. Estimated cost will be $600. Please call or email Judy Bruun for questions or information. A site visit is being planned for January. More details later.
Click here to access the IVIM Brochure for 2009. Please use the registration form to sign up for the Peru mission. Your deposit of $100 is non-refundable, but is tax deductible. If you choose to join a different mission in the Wisconsin Conference, your deposit will be applied to that mission.
