EDGE Outreach Story: Water Ministry Training

One of the greatest avenues for providing compassionate care for people's physical needs is through water. Right now, a child dies every 15 seconds due to unclean water and sanitation issues. It is possible for volunteers and missionaries to assuage this need without any previous experience and save many lives, while opening countless hearts to Christ's love in action. Our goal at EDGE OUTREACH is to train missionaries in sustainable WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Health/Hygiene) solutions that can be used to empower the global poor to produce safe water. This process has a lasting, transformational impact on the physical and spiritual well being of individuals and their communities. The most comprehensive training for this simple technique is available at the International Water Conference, which will take place October 15th-17th. The course provides classroom instruction and plenty of hands-on practice, so that participants will leave confident in their abilities to holistically address water needs. The best part is that the indigenous people are able to easily operate the systems themselves. EDGE also offers on-demand training to meet more time-sensitive needs. Imagine a simple, sustainable, high-capacity water purifier installed in a church by a few trained volunteers. The pastor may run it, providing pure water for the community. The community shares stories of greater health and the love of the people who provided this gift. People who might never approach a church will come for the pure water, and can receive the Living Water of Christ as they do. You can get a free guide to water purification here by filling out the form; it explains how the process works.EDGE OUTREACH also does hand-pump repair conferences. There are perhaps over a million broken hand pumps in Haiti, Africa, and the rest of the world that would be usable if given a simple repair (a little piece of leather wears out). Teaching receiving communities how to repair them can have a tremendous impact.
